Jam Sessions with Bob Sneider Trio

Every night, from 10:30 PM, the Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside will be  jammed for the XRIJF Nightly Jam Sessions. As the festival's official hotel, this is where the artists stay so since jazz never sleeps, the food on the grill is sizzling, and so is the music!! You never know who will show up!

Radisson $5 Parking for Jam Sessions - If you're attending one of the Jam Sessions at our official hotel, the Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside, you can park in the Radisson Garage for $5 from 10.p.m. to 2 a.m. Purchase tickets at the concession areas at Legends Bar and Grille or the Riverside Ballroom.

The XRIJF Nightly Jam Session has been a huge hit for music enthusiasts, professional players at the festival and local artists. The spirit of the jam session pairs combinations of musicians that have sometimes never played together before in an intimate and honest display of spontaneous artistry.  

Bob Sneider(guitar):

Before joining the Eastman faculty in late 1997, Sneider toured for several years with two-time Grammy Award winner Chuck Mangione. Other notable performers with whom Sneider has performed, toured or recorded include: Nat Adderley, Joe Locke, Don Menza, Lou Donaldson, Joey Defrancesco, Pat Bianchi, Gary Versace, Pat Labarbara, Joe Locke, Grant Stewart, Ken Peplowski, Gerry Niewood, Chris Potter, Roy McCurdy, Eric Alexander, David Hazeltine, Frank Strazzerri, Jon Faddis, Keeter Betts and frequent appearances with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Pops(guitar/banjo/mandolin/Ukulele). Sneider has performed in major festivals, concert halls and jazz clubs throughout South America, Central America, North America and Europe. Sneider is a graduate of the University of Rochester where he studied with Bill Dobbins and Ramon Ricker. Growing up in Brockton, MA, Sneiders mentor and teacher was Chet Kruley – a veteran of the Fletcher Henderson, and Nat Pierce bands.


Sneider has several solo and co-led cd projects that have received rave reviews and international airplay: Introducing Bob Sneider (self produced), Out of the Darkness (Sonsofsound), duo projects with pianist Paul Hofmann - Interconnection (Sonsofsound) and Escapade (Sonsofsound) and Serve & Volley (Origin), The Bob Sneider/Joe Locke Film Noir Project – Fallen Angel (Sonsofsound) and Nocturne for Ava (Origin), All Through The Night (RIJF). Several of his students have won major jazz competitions and attended renowned institutes: YoungArts, DownBeat, Grammy National Band, The Wilson International Guitar Competition, The Brubeck Institute, and the Kennedy Center / Jazz Ahead. Dan Vitale(bass)

Dan Vitale has been among the top call jazz bassists in Rochester and Western NY for nearly 40 years. Coming from a very musical family, Dan followed in the footsteps of his talented brothers(Richie - trumpet, John - saxophone, Charles - accordion) into the world of jazz. In addition to being a world-class rhythm section mate, Dan has dazzled his fellow musicians and audiences alike with lyrical and fluid Arco bass solos. Dan has performed with some of the greatest jazz artists past and present including JR Monterose, Hank Jones, Johnny Griffin, Joe Romano, Pat LaBarbera, Barney Kessel, Gerry Niewood, Peter Bernstein, Vincent Herring, Walt Weiskopf, Ken Peplowski, Frank Strazzeri, Billy Higgins and many other notable artists. In the Rochester area, Danny is often heard with the Bob Sneider Trio, The Mike Melito Quartet, and the John Nugent Quartet.


Mike Melito(drums)

Drummer Mike Melito started his professional career at age 16 playing with vibraphonist Joe Locke and saxophonist Joe Romano in his hometown of Rochester. Work then started to snowball for Mike; he started getting calls to play all over upstate NY. He started leading a jam session in the mid 80's at the now defunct Rochester jazz room Indigos. He continued to lead many groups in the 90's as well as freelancing. In 1997 he released his first of five critically acclaimed CDs called MY CONCEPTION. From there he started to appear on a lot of CDs as a sideman and in 2001 released his second CD BOUT TIME. His third release, THE NEXT STEP was released in 2005 and garnered much interest overseas. His release IN THE TRADITION 2007, caught the ear of Downbeat magazine and Downbeat wrote an article on Mike in the December 09 issue. Mike latest effort is THE RIGHT TIME. Over the years he has gone on to perform and record with names such as James Moody, Barry Harris, Benny Golson, JR Monterose, Harry Allen, Pat LaBarbera and many more.
