Kaisa Mäensivu is an award-winning Finnish jazz bassist based in New York. She playes with a variety of groups in Europe and in the U.S. While Kaisa mostly performs as a sidewoman, Kaisa’s Machine is her main project as a leader. She moved to New York to pursue her career in music in 2015. She finished her Master's degree at the highly acclaimed Manhattan School of Music in May 2017. She studied in the guidance of teachers and professors such as Dave Liebman and Ron Carter.During her career Kaisa has been awarded with multiple awardsand grants. In 2018 Kaisa won the first prize at the prestigious Riga Jazz Stage contest. During the same year she was nominated as a ’Rising Star’ at the Pori Jazz Festival in Europe. In 2017 Kaisa won the Kauko Viitamäki - award as an accomplished jazz musician. In 2017 she also won the third prize in the Esko Linnavalli - big band composing competition. Kaisa’s compositions take influences from the current, energetic sound of jazz in New York and mixes that with swinging rhythms as well as the serene sounds of Scandinavian jazz.Kaisa's Machine released its debut album ’In the key of K’ via Eclipse Music in December 2017. In addition to touring in Finland the band has performed in New York, Washington D.C., London, Berlin and Paris.
