Kaisa Mäensivu is an award-winning Finnish jazz bassist based inNew York. She playes with a variety of groups in Europe and in theU.S. While Kaisa mostly performs as a sidewoman, Kaisa’s Machineis her main project as a leader. She moved to New York to pursue hercareer in music in 2015. She finished her Master's degree at thehighly acclaimed Manhattan School of Music in May 2017. Shestudied in the guidance of teachers and professors such as DaveLiebman and Ron Carter.
During her career Kaisa has been awarded with multiple awardsand grants. In 2018 Kaisa won the first prize at the prestigious RigaJazz Stage contest. During the same year she was nominated as a’Rising Star’ at the Pori Jazz Festival in Europe. In 2017 Kaisa wonthe Kauko Viitamäki - award as an accomplished jazz musician. In2017 she also won the third prize in the Esko Linnavalli - big bandcomposing competition.Kaisa’s compositions take influences from the current, energeticsound of jazz in New York and mixes that with swinging rhythms aswell as the serene sounds of Scandinavian jazz.
Kaisa's Machine released its debut album ’In the key of K’ via EclipseMusic in December 2017. In addition to touring in Finland the bandhas performed in New York, Washington D.C., London, Berlin andParis.
